This is the Drag Rights Action Group, and we stand for safety, formality, and democracy in the drag industry!

In acknowledging how vast - fiscally, geographically, and culturally - the drag industry is, we are not willing to defend certain types of drag. Artists who use blackface, brownface, and yellowface in their acts are blights upon the community, as are those who consistently breach consent among artists and audience members. The D.R.A.G. Box is also concerned with the proliferation of sexist and misogynistic caricatures that have been present in the drag industry for decades.

It is common for jokes at the expense of subaltern groups to be used as crutches. It is not unreasonable to assume that artists who, today, have great influence and wealth in the industry were able to gain access to well-paid and well-networked gigs by leaning on cruel stereotypes about groups they are not part of. This is not appropriate behaviour in any industry, much less one that purports to value authenticity and community.

I'm a Wollongong-based Drag King 8 years into my career. Some newer kings have asked me to be their Drag Dad & that kind of resposibility is a lot to ask for!

This is my response - a website with all my knowledge and know-how for anyone in need. It's important to me that Drag insight isn't kept in the hands of only the most successful and experienced.

It's currently a one-man show, so progress is slow. For now, this website is a means of getting information to those who may, for some reason or another, be out of the loop.

Accessorising

Men's accessories can be gaudy or understated, and it should go without saying that the more luxurious it looks, the more successful the illusion will be.
Layering chains can infer wealth, for example, and costume jewelry can achieve this end with some tweaking. It helps to sand down any plastic seams and keep gold or silver paints on hand to touch up any tarnishing. Otherwise an unadorned, thick chain, a watch, a single earring, and a signet ring are the classic set of accessories that signify restrained masculine luxury. Metal and gemstones are traditionally preferred - a plastic applir watch strap and a resin earrring are less timelesss & elegant than a small diamond stud or hoop, and leather or chainlink on a watchstrap.

Men's fasion can lean androgynous, including heels, bolder earrings, adorned necklaces with pendants, and bracelets. These fit in best with vintage or historical fashion recreations; the 70s style, for example, is very forgiving with rings, necklaces, long hair and heeled boots, and men's fashion prior to the 20th century was often quite ornamental.
